Make Bowman Orchards Your Apple Oasis

Seeking the perfect apple oasis this fall season? As home to over 40 delectable apple varieties, Bowman Orchards is truly a family affair that started with Ray and Bev Bowman in 1952. Keeping in line with the family tradition, Bowman Orchards is now owned by Ray and Bev’s son, Kevin, along with his wife, Martha. Together the couple currently share operation of the 98 tree-filled acre land with their children who they hope will one day become the farm’s third-generation owners!

Of its abundance of apple varieties, Bowman Orchards is proud to grow New York State’s own SnapDragon, which the owners say has received overwhelmingly positive feedback since its release last year. Visitors to the farm have the opportunity to pick their own apples (U-Pick) or purchase them at the fully stocked farm store and bakery.

“We’re thrilled our SnapDragon production increased significantly from last year, despite this year’s challenging growing season for our farm,” says Kevin Bowman. “We currently have three acres of SnapDragon trees and have just been approved for another acre which is very exciting.”

Not only is SnapDragon production on the rise, but so is the apple’s growing popularity. When people try SnapDragon for the first time, Kevin says their reactions are unlike anything he’s seen before.

“The SnapDragon samplings we’ve hosted at our store every weekend have been a huge success,” says Kevin. “Many people are surprised at the apple’s unique taste and crispy, juicy texture. Also, because of SnapDragon’s small size, many find that it’s better for cooking and baking than HoneyCrisp.”

Haven’t tried the Snap yet? It’s time to visit Bowman Orchards at 141 Sugar Hill Rd., in Rexford, NY.
