SnapDragon Production Is In Full Swing At Dobbins Family Farm
A four-generation farm in Lockport, NY, Dobbins Family Farm knows what it takes to grow high quality apples. Since its start in 1905, the farm has experienced numerous changes, from vegetable row crops to orchards, and has utilized various planting systems in its growing practices.
Among many apple varieties, the farm was one of the first to grow everyone’s new favorite – New York State’s own crisp and sweet SnapDragon. Dobbins Family Farm president and CEO, Ward Dobbins, predicts that SnapDragon availability will continue to go up each year as the very young trees go into production.
“Despite the sometimes challenging weather along Lake Ontario, we have always remained committed to growing a rich and abundant harvest,” says Ward.
“It’s great to see so many consumers supporting the ‘buy local’ movement,” he continues. “Once people taste the freshness of our homegrown apples, they come back every year wanting more.”
After several decades in operation, the 100-acre farm proudly remains family-owned and operated, and has been named a Global Gap Certified farm for its safe and sustainable agricultural practices.
