SnapDragon Apple Butter Grilled Cheese
Add a Snap to your regular grilled cheese with this Apple Butter Grilled Cheese recipe using SnapDragon apples! SnapDragon apples are spicy-sweet with a Monster Crunch that pairs well with the tangy Havarti cheese and sourdough bread. The apples create a delicious base for the spiced apple butter, which takes this grilled cheese sandwich to the next level!
Ingredients
- SnapDragon Apple Butter -
- SnapDragon Apples (peeled and cored) - 6
- Cinnamon - 2 tsp
- Nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- Vanilla Extract - 1 tsp
- Brown Sugar - 2/3 cup
- Salt - a pinch
- Grilled Cheese -
- Sourdough Bread (or bread of choice) - 2 slices
- Havarti Cheese - 4 slices
- SnapDragon Apple Butter - 4 tbsp
- Butter - 2 tbsp
- SnapDragon Apple - 1
Instructions
- Apple Butter Instructions:
- Peel and core the SnapDragon apples and chop them into quarter-sized pieces. Add the apples to the slow cooker along with the spices, sugar and salt.
- Cook on low for 7-8 hours or high for 5-6 hours. The timing will depend on the slow cooker used. Once taken off the heat, add the vanilla extract.
- Then, use an immersion blender to puree the apple butter until it becomes a smooth consistency. This is optional but highly recommended. A food processor or blender can also be used.
- Grilled Cheese Instructions:
- Slice sourdough bread into thick slices and butter each side. Add two tablespoons of apple butter to each slice of bread.
- Place two slices of Havarti cheese on each slice of bread. Slice a SnapDragon apple into thin slices, then layer them on one slice of bread.
- Heat a skillet on medium-high heat with a tablespoon of butter. Toast the sandwich for 4-5 minutes per side, or until the bread is toasty and the cheese is melted.
- Cut in half and enjoy immediately for the best taste!
